Nazem Kadri scores pair, Mitch Marner pots shootout winner to lift Leafs over expansion Knights
Nazem Kadri showed some hockey wisdom to go along with his scoring touch Monday night.
In what, privately, may have felt like a must-win game for the Leafs, Kadri came up with a pair of goals to lead the slumping Leafs to a 4-3 shootout win over the Las Vegas Golden Knights at the Air Canada Centre.
This was a night of firsts: the first meeting between the two teams; the first shootout game for the Golden Knights, and the first shootout of the season for the Leafs.
And for Toronto, which gave up the lead when Vegas defenceman Deryk Engelland scored at 6:16 of the third to tie the game 3-3, there was no other redeeming result than the win.
Toronto was plain desperate, coming off a 1-3 road trip that left them with just two wins in their previous eight games.
